Binding: 101

Ever wonder what the difference between perfect bound and case bound is? Or loop stitching and saddlestitching? Well, search no more! We’ve got the perfect binding 101 cheat sheet to help you determine the best binding option for your next print project.

Common Binding Terms

Saddlestitching: Sheets of paper (signatures) are nested and stapled together through the center fold with wire staples.

Perfect Binding: With the help of a flexible adhesive, folded pages (signatures) are glued together at the spine and a paper cover is wrapped around the whole piece.

Spiral/Coil Binding: Individual sheets are fastened together by a continuous spiral of wire or plastic that coils through a series of holes punched along one side of the printed piece.
